edVentures Workshop
Aboriginal Ash Basketry

Join instructor Katie Augustine for this hands-on class that will include information and a demonstration on the process of obtaining splints from the ash logs that are used in making these baskets. Participants will be taught how to make three different kinds of baskets that are traditional to the Maliseet people of the area (a fiddlehead, square and round fancy basket).

You’ll learn every aspect of the process, from preparing the ash splints, the layout, the weaving to the finishing processes of each individual basket, as well as the color dye process and curl technique of the fancy baskets. Participants will leave the workshop with 3 beautiful baskets and the knowledge of a craft born from a culture that is a part of New Brunswick’s heritage.
