Increasing Spinning Wheel Skills

Note: Registration is now closed

Explore creative and complex spinning techniques and take your yarns up a notch! With instructor Rachel MacGilivrey, you’ll learn how to experiment with art yarn staples such as super coils, core spinning, experimental 3 plies and more! You’ll work with a variety of materials and learn how to blend your own crazy batts. Participants should already be comfortable spinning singles & two ply yarns. Having your own wheel isn’t necessary, but do feel free to bring one if you have it.

Instructor: Rachel MacGillivray
Rachel MacGillivray studied Fashion Design at Ryerson University and, after working in the industry in Toronto, she moved to New Brunswick to follow her love of textiles.  She completed the Fibre Arts & Graduate diplomas at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design.  Rachel has won multiple national competitions, scholarships, and awards and has had her work shown in museums and galleries such as The Louvre, The Bata Shoe Museum, The National War Museum, and Government House Gallery. Primarily now a spinner and wool enthusiast, Rachel also uses textile techniques such as knitting, embroidery, quilting, garment making, and image transfer in her work to explore themes of memory and community. Currently, she’s pursuing her arts practice and instructing at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design.
