Intro to weaving

During this 5-day workshop you will create your own scarf or shawl on a 4-harness floor loom.

Once you’ve decided on a project, instructor Kimberly Bent will teach you how to calculate the amount of material you will need.

You will then be able to purchase, with confidence and advice, materials suitable to your project.

Some of your own material may be incorporated, so bring that along!

Each participant in the class will make a warp and dress a loom.

By the end of the workshop, you will have your own hand-made woven garment to use for yourself or give as a special gift.

Kimberly Bent
Kimberly Bent, owner of Bent Threads weaving studio is a Fredericton based weaver.

Kim’s interest in making textiles goes back to early childhood when she learned from various mentors how to make things with yarn and thread.

She learned crochet, knitting, needlework and string art as a child and came to weaving as an adult.

She has since explored other techniques such as rug hooking, felting, and spinning but weaving has remained a mainstay and her first love (though spinning is quickly gaining ground!).

Kim is delighted to share her skills and interest in the fibre arts with anyone who wants to learn.

She especially enjoys teaching beginners.  She is an active member of FAN (Fibre Arts Network) in Fredericton.

She is juried with Craft NB and sits on the board of the Canadian Crafts Federation.
