Using Creative Stitches in Rug Hooking

New Brunswick College of Craft & Design
457 Queen Street
Fredericton, NB

edVentures Workshop

Using a comic-like pattern of a cat or dog, participants will practice making creative stitches such as proddy, spiral seed stitch, basket weave and more.  They will learn how and when to use creative stitches in their own mats.

Instructions will also be given on turning their cat or dog into a three dimensional, free-standing character.

A basic knowledge in rug hooking is required for this project.

Material fees per participant covers a 12" x 9" cat or dog pattern drawn on linen.

Wools for the project as well as a backing fabric and fibre fill will be available at cost; however students are encouraged to bring their own materials.

This is a perfect project to use up scraps of wool or "worms" from other projects.

Students will need to bring wool cutters with #4, #5, or #6 blades if they have them.

A medium rug hook, frame and sharp scissors are required.
