Weaving a Bicycle Basket

Basket weaver, Lisa Fullarton, will lead you in creating a finished bicycle basket ready to install by the end of this two day workshop.  Your hand crafted bicycle basket will be made using flat reed and basic weaving techniques, complete with quick release buckles to fasten to your handlebars.  Embellishments and stain will be the last steps to complete your project before you’re ready to hit the trails around Fredericton and beyond!

Instructor: Lisa Fullarton
Lisa began rediscovering artistic expression in 2011, when she opened Black Butterfly Studio with Black & White Mandalas and Zentangle inspired artwork. She sold work and taught classes locally until returning to school. Graduating in 2015 from the NB College of Craft and Design’s Aboriginal Visual Arts Program, she began to call on recently discovered family roots with a strong sense of spirituality and creativity blended with a passion for colour and love of traditional work. The result is one-of-a-kind pieces that are from her heart with a focus on a love of "visual texture" in tactile 3D work, such as carving and basketry.

She enjoys creating basketry products that may serve a practical purpose and represent fusion of function and fabulous design. Recently becoming a juried member of the New Brunswick Crafts Council has given her more opportunities to share what she has learned and experienced with others through teaching workshops, demonstrations, and selling her products.
